不少市民經常受直銷電話煩擾，今年4月生效的《個人資料私隱條例》修訂後，個人私隱專員公署於今年頭9個月，接獲的直銷投訴達449宗，較去年同期僅100宗急升三倍半。有議員認為，投訴增與市民對新例敏感度高有關，不排除日後投訴愈來愈多。

資訊科技界議員莫乃光稱，「新例對直銷活動嘅規管更嚴謹，市民覺得投訴有門，令投訴增加。」但他說，仍需時觀察公署如何處理投訴，才能知道新例有否實際成效。
